Supervisors approve waivers for proposed warehouse

Upper Nazareth Supervisor’s Meeting – May 1, 2024

Note: The township failed to post the 5/1/24 agenda at least 24-hours prior to the meeting so, per Solicitor Gary Asteak, the Board limited votes to non-financial items and administrative actions.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

I complained about the School District’s continuing failure to regulate the gate at 4th Street. Lisa Klem said she had recently spoken to the Superintendent and that the District plans to replace the gate this Summer with one which automatically closes after a car passes through.

A Tatamy Road resident requested an update on flooding control issues in the area and also reported that the detention pond on the Faust property continues to cause a major water flow onto 2nd Street. The Supervisors say they are waiting to hear back from Heidelberg and continue to canvass the neighborhood to get feedback from residents.

TOWNSHIP SOLICITOR

Approval of the Conditional use application by Overlook at Nazareth, LLC.

Gary Asteak said the township hopes to settle on the Keller tract soon – plans are to preserve it as open space.

TOWNSHIP MANAGER

Approval to accept the retirement letter from Zoning Officer John Soloe.

Approval to appoint Angela Strohl as the new Zoning Officer.

The new wing of the township building should be completed by June or July and construction on the fitness area behind the township building will begin soon.

PLANNING & ZONING

Brian Sayago complained about the lists of waiver requests on the agenda, pointing out that members of the public wouldn’t be able to decode all the numbers and that there should be a better explanation of the motions.

The first list of requests were for the Penn Dixie Commercial Park. I asked if the development plan included a warehouse and was told “yes.” The waivers are related to 100 acres of property which are being subdivided into 6 lots. Waivers included right of ways, easements, widening the streets, connecting to sewer and public water, the length of the cul-de-sac, side slopes for a detention basin, sidewalks, trails to Tuskes Park and storm pipes.

The second list of requests was for the Yeska Minor Subdivision. Years ago, 75 acres of farmland was put into the preservation program. Two acres were carved out of that parcel and the waivers were related to this section. No building is anticipated on this property, but preserved land is not subject to SALDO requirements. The Supervisors approved the requested waivers.

Becky Bartlett covers these meetings because citizens have a right to know what their government is doing.
