PUBLIC COMMENTS
Pam Berlew, who serves on the Planning Commission, raised several concerns about the proposed development at Penn Dixie Commercial Park. The proposal includes moving the Cement Batch Plant nearer to Tuskes Park. A special exception for cement factories was put into place in 2004 and, as a result, environmental testing is not required for this plant. Ms. Berlew pointed out that the EPA recommends that cement plants should be no closer than 1,000 ft to residential housing. Also, she said that the current plans do not include a berm between the residential neighborhood and that containers on the property have been moved without first leveling the ground.
Brian Sayago asked about the status of the approval for the project and Scott Sylvainus asked if the Board would be able to override any decision. Solicitor Gary Asteak said the Board can challenge the decision, but the special exception may or may not affect the relocation of the cement batch plant. Brian Sayago recommended the Board take up this issue. John Soloe pointed out that any questions should be directed to the applicant at a Planning Commission meeting.
