PUBLIC COMMENT
An East Lawn resident complained about receiving a solicitation for a donation from the Library, wanting to know how much the mailing cost and claiming it was a waste of tax dollars. She requested the township send a letter to the Library about the annual appeal.
A Sycamore St. resident asked if a fence was going to be installed around Sycamore Park because, if so, he’d have to move his wood pile. Shawn Shupe said a fence is not part of the current MS4 plan. The resident also reported that drainage is slow, cement posts are coming out of the ground and that a gate should be installed over the storm drain opening. Shawn pointed out that workers will be back in the Spring to fix things.
I praised the Supervisors for taking swift action on a proposal to install a permanent stop sign on Gun Club Road and pointed out that, in the last year, six residents from 4th and 5th street have spoken out at meetings about problems with high school students parking in the area. Last December there was a complaint from someone who could not park on the street in front of his house on school days. He has now taken to parking on his lawn. I said I was glad to finally see this issue listed on the agenda.
SUPERVISOR COMMENTS
Approval to waive the permit fee for the Fire Department by a vote of 4-to-1. (Brian Sayago voted against). Brian asked to see the department’s financial records. Fire Chief Fassl said that a new truck they need will cost $1.3 million and the new fire house is estimated to cost $2 million. They plan on breaking ground for that in April.
The Supervisors held a discussion about issues with student parking on 4th and 5th Streets during school days. The Parking Committee met last week to discuss solutions and Scott Sylvainus pointed out that Nazareth Borough recently enacted permitted parking to address the issue in their municipality. Parking along 4th and 5th street has caused safety issues for school buses and pedestrians as well as complaints from resident about their mailboxes and driveways being blocked. Supervisors approved a motion to draft an ordinance to allow resident parking only on School Days from 9AM – 3PM. The area will include the area west of Industrial Drive between 2nd Street and 5th Street in Farmview Estates.
TOWNSHP ENGINEER
A traffic study at the intersection of Gun Club Road and Blossom Hill Road was recently completed and it determined that a permanent stop sign is warranted there due to reduced sight distance. Supervisors approved the drafting of an ordinance to add the stop sign.
TOWNSHIP MANAGER
Approval to provide key fob access to supervisors to the Municipal Building.
