PUBLIC COMMENTS

A resident expressed concerns about flooding on Tatamy Road and Mt. Vernon Ave (this has been a long-running issue and has come before the Board several times.) The resident asked about earth moving equipment being used on Industrial Drive, and wanted to know if the landowner had a permit to do that and if they were going to be paving  part of the lot which would increase the amount of runoff into his neighborhood.

A Mt. Vernon resident said that a culvert at the bottom of his road fills up after every rainstorm. He thinks the flooding is linked to an update to underground pipes 15 years ago. He asked why the township hadn’t paved below 1st Street last year and Public Works Director Shawn Shupe said they skipped that section due to potential work in that area related to a fix for the flooding.

Brian Sayago said that the township has been waiting for a definitive answer from Heidelberg to see if we’d be able to pump stormwater under Tatamy Road and into the quarry. He suggested holding a Special Meeting on the issue. Scott Sylvainus said suggested they get an update from Keystone Engineering about the Heidelberg response and said several potential fixes had been posed in the past and that some of them would cost over $2 million.

The resident from Tatamy Road suggested the township buy some of the homes with a history of flooding and turn the land into detention ponds.

A resident from Bath Pike complained about garages/warehouses near Steel Management which, instead of being used for storage, are being used to work on cars. There has been a lot of speeding in the area. Several supervisors wondered, if work is being done on cars, how is the oil being disposed of?

The owner of Clothes Bin, a used clothing and textile recycling company, said he was looking to form a partnership with the township to place collection bins at Tuskes Park and other sites. Mike Rinker pointed out that we already have collection bins for clothing at the High School and Fire Department. Brian Sayago requested Clothes Bin come back with a specific request for where the bins would be placed. Shawn Shupe said that they’ve had to remove bins from Tuskes Park in the past because of illegal dumping. Gary Asteak said that if more than one company wants to provide this service in the township then there would need to be a competitive bidding process.
