COURTESY OF THE FLOOR
A Mitchell Avenue resident complained about students parking on his street. He claimed most are students who’ve recently gotten their driver’s licenses but can’t get a permit to park at the school or are parents picking up kids. The township passed a parking ordinance a while ago, but it only pertains to streets west of the high school. He requested Mitchell Avenue be added to the ordinance.
A Blue Jay Drive resident complained about affordability and property taxes, saying they’d gone up 18% last year. He requested better communication from the township and suggested they offer more justifications to the taxpayers. While there was no increase in the General Fund budget, he claimed that the Fire Dept budget went up 50% and he wanted to know why there hadn’t been better planning for the new truck. Scott Sylvainus pointed out that the Fire Dept is separate from the township and that the new truck was ordered 2-3 years ago; it’s just being built now. Scott said that population in the township has grown substantially in recent years leading to an increase in costs. Kristin Mullen said that Budget Meetings are held every fall and are open to the public.
Pastor Larry Vandever from The Coalition for Feral Cats of Lehigh Valley spoke about his organization which runs a TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) program for feral cats, vaccinating for rabies and deworming them. They also set up sandboxes in certain areas. He claimed to be taking care of three colonies in Upper Nazareth.
SUPERVISORS
JR Williams reported that the Fire Department held a very successful Valentine’s Day bash.
TOWNSHIP MANAGER/ADMINISTRATION
Lisa Klem reported that they had planned to apply for a grant to address drainage issues in Farmview Estates, but will not be able to as the State is not funding that program this year.
A report was submitted to Lehigh Valley Greenways documenting how money was spent on the plantings at Harvest Grove and requesting $20,000 reimbursement from the grant. William Bartlett reported that care and feeding work is taking place at the park now with more plantings scheduled for the fall.
Approval for Girard Pension Services to manage the pension fund.
PLANNING & ZONING
Approval for an extension request for Aspire Nazareth Plan #1 and #2 until February 4, 2028.
(Editor’s Note: This vote concerns the Calandra’s property on the corner of East Lawn and Friedenstahl roads. Aspire Nazareth wants to build apartments on the lot, but the school district has claimed eminent domain to acquire the property. A recent article on WFMZ reported that the school board approved an asking price of $1.8 million be presented to the owners.)
PUBLIC WORKS
Approval to pay for a Public Works employee to attend welding school at a cost of $2,403.90.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Approval to adopt Resolution No. 26-08 – the February 2026 Emergency Operations Plan.
Becky Bartlett covers these meetings because citizens have a right to know what their government is doing.
