Public Notice: Lower Nazareth Twp

Editor’s Note: Kudos to Lower Nazareth for moving forward to preserve their farmland and open space. Upper Nazareth will vote on a similar Ordinance in the November 5th election

The Board of Supervisors of Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, will conduct a Public Hearing and consider adoption of the following proposed Ordinance at a Regular Meeting on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, 6:30 PM at the Lower Nazareth Township Municipal Building, 623 Municipal Drive, Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

The Board of Supervisors invite public comment on the proposed Ordinance, the following of which is only a summary: AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AN ADDITIONAL 0.25% EARNED INCOME TAX FOR OPEN SPACE FUNDING.

Imposition of an additional Earned Income Tax at the rate of 0.25% by Lower Nazareth Township shall be used for financing the acquisition of open space, for the purpose of acquiring agricultural conservation easements, for the purpose of acquiring property development rights, and for the related fees and expenses as authorized by law. This Ordinance has been authorized by the registered electors of Lower Nazareth Township in accordance with a Referendum approved by majority vote on May 21, 2019. The amount of revenue estimated to be derived from the tax is approximately 700,000.00 annually.

Copies of the proposed Ordinance are available for public inspection at the Lower Nazareth Township Municipal Offices, 623 Municipal Drive, Lower Nazareth Township, Pennsylvania between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday and the Northampton County Law Library, Northampton County Courthouse, 669 Washington Street, Easton, Pennsylvania and the Express Times, 18 Centre Square, Easton, Pennsylvania.
