Nazareth Area School Board Meeting – July 24, 2017
Students Recognized
Victoria Palochick was awarded the 2017 Athlete of the Year Award by Coordinated Health. A swimmer for Nazareth High School, Victoria received a $11,000 scholarship. She plans to attend Drexel University and pursue a degree in medicine.
Seven Middle School students were recognized for their participation in “There Ought to be a Law” essay contest. Shannon Sidel was the overall winner for her proposed bill to decrease the amount of time a biological parent has to reclaim a baby after releasing it for adoption.
Community Concerns
Asked about the PA Senate’s recent vote in favor of SB383, a bill which would allow schools to arm employees, Superintendent Riker stated that, should this pass into law, he would recommend against allowing Nazareth school employees to carry firearms.
Announcement of Retirement
Superintendent Riker announced that the board has approved of Principal Kern’s retirement from the Middle School. Mr. Bauder will now be the principal.
