School Board Presents 1st Draft of the Budget

Nazareth Area School Board – December 4, 2017

Reorganization meeting

For the new term, Mr. Treon was elected Board President, Mrs. Kalinoski was elected Vice President

General Board Meeting

First Draft of Budget

The preliminary budget was presented with an estimate of $88 million. There has been no increase from state or federal revenue other than FICA. Currently, there is a shortfall of $2 million. If the district raises the taxes by ACT I index, that would yield $1.3 million, leaving a gap of $700,000. Two areas would allow the district to seek exceptions from ACT I: Special Education and P-ZER (?) The commonwealth reviews and approves applications for exceptions. The district must apply for them now although they’ve done this in past years and, ultimately, haven’t had to use them. The board voted to apply for exceptions.

The budget presented tonight was just a first draft. The board voted to authorize to advertise the budget.
