Proposal to Lower the Speed Limit on Friedenstahl Avenue

April 4, 2018 – Upper Nazareth Supervisors Meeting

Announcements

Northampton County residents can drop off Latex Paint on Saturday, April 7th from 9:00am – Noon at 500 Bushkill Drive Easton, PA

Curb-side yard waste will be collected from April 16-20th

The yard waste facility opens on April 21st

Community Concerns

The township is looking to post weight restrictions and bond roads before construction of the PennEast Pipeline begins.

The Planning Commission is working on an official map of the township. Adopting it will require an ordinance presented at a public meeting before it can be adopted.

Although it is outside of Upper Nazareth township, there was a discussion about traffic light at the intersection of Tatamy and VanBuren Roads. The light is not timed very well. Hopefully someone will contact Palmer Township about it.

Safety Discussion on Friedenstahl Avenue

Hiring a crossing guard to escort students across Friedenstahl Avenue would cost $7,000/year for salary and workman’s comp insurance. If the supervisors go with this option, there will be a several week delay for candidates to receive child abuse clearances.

The supervisors voted to advertise a public meeting where they will discuss lowering the speed limit on the road to 35 mph. One resident encouraged police to hand out tickets pointing out, “No one speeds through Tatamy.”

Your Tax Dollars at Work

Approval for $2,500/year for a CodeRed alert system which will contact residents with emergency information via email, text messages or landlines.

Approval of $4,500 for 1-2 management interns. Candidates will be paid $10 – $11/hour for 20 hours/week.

Approval to move the publication to Hometown Press. This new version will include advertisements.

Becky Bartlett is a resident of Upper Nazareth and covers these meetings because citizens have the right to know what their government is doing.
