Parking Fines to Rise in Upper Nazareth

August 15, 2018 – Upper Nazareth Supervisors Meeting

Announcements

August 24th-25th – Community Days at Tuskes Park

  • Tuskes Park will be closed for the week prior to Community Days for setup
  • During Community Days, the park will be opened later and a temporary permit has been obtained to serve alcohol

August 25th – Community Cheer Color Run – held in Nazareth Borough and parts of Upper Nazareth Township

September 13th – 7:00 PM Planning Commission

2019 Budget

Before the official Board meeting, the supervisors reviewed the budget to date. (The budget is scheduled to be adopted in December and this review reflected the 50% mark)

  • Costs for police are higher than expected due to overtime and use of part-time officers
  • The supervisors indicated this was due to an error in budgeting and that they are renegotiating the contract with police to clear up issues of mandatory overtime

Student Safety

The township has asked Nazareth Area School District to make 5th Street a crosswalk and will hire a crossing guard. The School Board thinks students crossing Friedenstahl Avenue at 5th Street increases danger and is requesting additional Stop signs at 2nd and 4th Streets. Supervisors will ask the school district to look into providing busing for Farmview residents

Parking Fees to Rise

The Supervisors approved Ordinance #178. Violators will now be fined $50. Township police will not be monitoring parked cars but must be called if someone is parking illegally.

Township Engineer

Townships are mandated by Pennsylvania DEP and Federal EPA to reduce sediment run into streams by 10%. Upper Nazareth has devised a tentative 5 year plan to capture water before it flows into streams and ponds. The plan will have to be approved and may cost money.

Heritage Village has started Phase 2 and requested Phases 3 & 4 be submitted together. They will have to submit the plan to the Planning Commission first.

Eagles Landing is still in review and Tuskes is overdue on bills for lighting and other expenses.

There has been no submission for the warehouse on Gun Club Road. A meeting for concerned citizens was scheduled for August 16th

The Oil & Chip project is slated to begin in mid-September

Your Tax Dollars at Work

Approval of $10,663.79 payment to Alpha Space Control for the 2018 Pavenment Marking project.

Profeta Farms is requesting an Agricultural Security Area Application (ASA) for 107 of their acres. The Supervisors agreed to pay for an advertisement.

Approval to pay $18.11/hour for a new Public Works hire.

Many thanks to Jeannie Morgano for covering this meeting. Citizens have the right to know what their government is doing.
