Nazareth School Board General Meeting – February 27,2017
Community Concerns
The Lacrosse team read a letter to the Board, requesting a proper site to hold their practices and games. With a scheduled replacement of turf the team, which practices six days a week, will not be able to play on their home field on Senior Night. The team requested access to a field which will have lights, turf, a sound system and wheelchair access.
Senior Graduation will be held on May 31st this year.
Butz Elementary School was damaged on Saturday during the thunderstorm. Several evergreen trees snapped and had to be cleaned up. Superintendent Riker reported that the storm had also caused damage to several homes in Bushkill.
A board member made some comments regarding the budget which was presented during the February 13th meeting. Mr. Treon pointed out that, over the last six years, salary costs have gone up 2.71% a year while benefits have increased by 27%. Salary and Benefit’s cost have accounted for 92% of increases over the last six years; 8% is linked to contracts, services and charter schools.
