Nazareth Area School District – February 26, 2018
Announcement
The Board accepted Linda McDonald’s resignation on Feb. 12th and has advertised for a new member to be appointed. The deadlines for applications is March 5th.
Community Concern
Amy Pidgeon introduced herself, and announced she’s started a group for moms, focused on keeping children safe: Nazy Mom’s Unit. The group, which currently has 560 members, will meet once a month for a presentation on topics such as bullying, opioid abuse, school safety issues. They will also send someone to attend the school board meetings every month.
Budget
Representatives from CIT did a presentation, showing that enrollment from Nazareth has increased 24.09% over last year. Nazareth’s payment for the 2018-2019 school year will be $94,404.
A representative from the Colonial Intermediate Unit (CIU) presented. Nazareth’s share is $40,306.89, a 2.5% increase.
Agenda Items
There was an extended discussion about Agenda item IV J with Linda Stubitz pointing out that many Nazareth teachers feel overwhelmed by the amount of technology initiatives they are expected to master. That item did pass with several members voting against it.
