William Bartlett introduced himself to the Supervisors. Although the results from the May 16th Primary are currently unofficial, he expects to be on the ballot for the General Election in November and looks forward to working with the Board.

(Editor’s Note: I’ve been married to Bill Bartlett for 35 years, but I don’t intend to discuss the upcoming supervisor race on this blog. I cover these meetings simply to keep residents informed.)

LIBRARY

Approval for the Nazareth Memorial Library to do story programming for children at the large pavilion in Tuskes Park on Tuesdays from June to September.

Approval for the Township to participate with the Library’s Touch-a-Truck event on October 7th at the Bushkill Township Recreation Fields

ENGINEER

UGI Gas is in the final phase of pipe replacement in the Gardens. The Supervisors discussed the positive test for fecal coliforms in the area which was reported at the last meeting. The Engineer reported that the source is undetermined but might possibly be located upstream.

SOLICITOR

Approval for the Township to pursue the execution of an agreement of sale for a 3.7 acre property at Gun Club and Newburg roads for $175K.   The Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) has a signed agreement of sale with the owner. The Township plans to maintain the property as open space.

Gary Asteak met with members from the Police and Fire departments to discuss the Township’s Outdoor Burning ordinance. Gary plans to update the ordinance to ban outside burning except for recreational fires.

The zoning ordinances are in the process of being updated.

MANAGER

Recently a car rammed a house at SR 946 and Knauss Road, near the border with Bushkill Township. Bushkill is requesting a traffic study performed by Keystone Consulting Engineering—the two municipalities will share the cost. Multiple accidents have occurred in that area. Supervisors approved the request providing that Bushkill purchases the property.

The Township received $50K from a Monroe LSA grant and will use it to purchase a Chevy pickup truck for the Public Works department.

Supervisors asked the Fire Chief about repeat fire alarm calls to Gracedale Nursing Home.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

Approval to purchase PowerDMS Scheduling Software ($4,625 for the first year with an additional $2,000 for setup)

Approval to pay for an officer to take 2 college classes.

Becky Bartlett covers these meetings because citizens have a right to know what their government is doing.
