Agenda Items

The Board voted unanimously to table item VII-D, a resolution opposing legislation to  eliminate school property taxes.

“Now therefore, be it resolved that the Board of School Directors of the Nazareth Area School District call upon the General Assembly to oppose any legislation that would totally eliminate property taxes.”

No explanation was given as to why this motion was tabled or when the board would again take it up.

Item VI-E was an approval of the 2017-2018 budget. The budget is in the amount of $84.791,321 which is a 4.41% increase over the current budget. Appropriations for revenue include:

  • A real estate transfer tax of 1% (the District’s share is 0.5%)
  • A 0.7% tax on earned income (District’s share)
  • A school tax levied and assessed at a rate of 53.268 mills

The only Board member to vote against approving the budget was Dr. Stubitz. Questioned about her vote, Dr. Stubitz said she thought the budget included too many wants as opposed to needs. She agreed to present her views on the matter at the March 27th meeting.

Items V, VII, IX & XI passed.
